What's the difference between Speed Post and Registered Post in India?▾
Speed Post is India Post's premium time-bound express service with end-to-end tracking and delivery in 1-3 days within metros. Registered Post is the older service used mainly for legal documents — slower (3-7 days) and only scanned at booking and delivery, not in transit.
Why does my India Post tracking website often time out?▾
The official indiapost.gov.in tracker is regularly overloaded, especially during festival season (Diwali, Raksha Bandhan). Trying off-peak hours (early morning IST) or using the SMS service (text "POST TRACK <number>" to 166) is more reliable. Aggregators may pull data faster than the official portal.
Will my parcel be held for customs clearance in India?▾
Inbound parcels above ₹5,000 (gifts) or any commercial shipment are routed to the Foreign Post Office in the destination metro for customs assessment. Recipients receive an SMS with a customs-duty link to pay online; the parcel only moves to local delivery once payment clears. Expect 3-10 extra days for this step.
