Getting text out of a PDF by selecting and copying works until the document is long, the columns are unusual, or the selection keeps grabbing headers and page numbers. This tool reads the text layer directly, page by page, and hands you the whole thing at once — ready to copy or download as a .txt file.
The extraction runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded. That matters for the sort of files people usually want text from: invoices, reports, research papers and contracts.
One limitation is worth understanding up front. A PDF only contains text if it was created from a digital document. A scanned page is a photograph, and no amount of extraction will find words in it — the tool detects this case and says so rather than handing you an empty file. Reading a scan requires OCR, which is a different kind of tool.
