Sending a Word file to someone who does not have Word, or submitting a document that must not shift its layout on a different machine, is the usual reason to convert to PDF. Word can do it, but not everyone has Word open — or installed — at the moment they need the PDF.
This converter reads the .docx in your browser and rebuilds it as a print-ready document: headings stay headings, lists stay lists, tables keep their structure and repeat their header row across pages, and embedded images come along. You then save it as a PDF through your browser's print dialog, which keeps the text as real text rather than a picture of text.
The result is a clean, readable document rather than a pixel-perfect replica of Word's rendering. Complex layouts — text boxes, columns, elaborate styling — are simplified, and the tool tells you when that happened. Older .doc files are a different, binary format and are not supported; open one in Word and save it as .docx first.
